Adaptive re-use of historic community icon
Planning Ingenuity was engaged by Wollongong City Council to carry out assessment for extensive refurbishment, conservation and associated landscape and public domain works to the State Heritage listed 1930’s Bathers Pavilion on North Wollongong Beach.
The project included conservation and building maintenance, public domain works such as improved access to the Pavilion and along the shared way known as the Blue Mile corridor, a new café, and public amenities. The proposal also benefits lifesaving facilities along the beachfront. The adaptive re-use of the iconic North Beach Bathers Pavilion was completed and re-opened in September 2012 and provides a positive social and historical benefit to the local community as part of the strategic framework within Wollongong’s North Beach Precinct under the Blue Mile Master Plan.
